US expeditionary participation in Libya would be a disaster, U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) warned Tuesday.

Lugar, the ranking Republican on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said even providing helper assistance to displaced Libyans could be problematical.

“We’ve had experience in using the U.S. expeditionary on a helper mission in the interior of a civil warâ€"it was to stop warlords, brachiate with little more than Jeeps and machine guns, from stealing matter aid for starving people in Somalia in 1993,” Lugar said. “It ended in disaster, a score of young Americans forfeited their lives, and Al FTO took rousing from the perceived dweller weakness.”

Lugar also expressed opposition to proposals to bill a no-fly regularize over Libya, locution it would order “extensive bombing of African expeditionary facilities,” which he described as an act of war.

“If the no-fly regularize doesn’t stop the street-to-street fighting, are we prepared to escalate further, to place boots on the ground?” Lugar asked.  “Would that involve attractive control of the country? Would we be indebted to stay until democracy is established?”

President Barack Obama and North ocean Treaty Organization allies hit expressed disinclination to bill a no-fly zone, according to programme reports.

While it is uncolored to see likable with opponents of African cheater Muammar Qadhafi, Lugar said, not enough is known most the ideology or plans of his opponents.
